Enough is Enough

Court: Texas wrongly seized sect children
A Texas appeals court ruled Thursday that the state had no right to seize hundreds of children from polygamous sect.

No one should be able to go in and snatch up everyone’s kids under the guise of an unsubstantiated complaint.

If government officials are allowed to do this to the members of the FLDS sect, then WHO is next: the children members of the church you attend?

For example, if you are LDS, Baptist, or Catholic and someone calls in a complaint that there is abuse of children in your congregation, the government (state) might step in and take all the kid that attend your church or your church’s daycare.

Remember it has been documented that the complaint that let government officials to raid the compound was totally FABRICATED.

I am in no way condoning the behavior of the members of the FLDS sect (e.g., underage marriages, food stamp and Medicaid fraud), but we have to remember that is not why those children were taken away from their parents according to what the State of Texas.

As a parent, I am very concerned how easily the state can use heavy handed tactics to come into your home and dictate how you parent your children.

What are your thoughts on the subject?

P.S. This only begins to scratch the surface of this mess. The other day families were given court ordered ‘generic’ plans on what they had to start doing in order to be reunited with their children. Since when did one plan fit’s all apply to raising kids!

Really appreciate your thoughts and insight into this situation.

the whole situation is appalling! i really feel for those families - especially considering the poor quality of Texas' foster care system. it is blatant violation of religious freedom to brand all the members of a particular sect as child molesters.
unfortunately, i am also at a total loss at the 'right way' to deal with this situation. clearly there is a problem with 'underaged' and 'forced' marriages in several cases.

I agree with what you've said and on the other comments. The whole thing is a mess! My heart goes out to those parents who can't be with their kids. Abuse happens everywhere and in the manner they've handled this, it's going to back fire. The state has no right to do what they've done. Like Katharine said, Texas has one of the worst foster care systems already. Now we've added 400 more kids to it that aren't going to get the proper care they need. I'm really bitting my tongue on what I want to say, but I don't want to offend anyone. I agree w/ what you said Byron. It's scary the state did what they did. Like you said, who can be next.
